it depends from band to band, but in millencolin's case it's mostly lyrics/singing but music too.

The both are important, but when we listening to a band the first time we listen to the music... And if we find that the band sounds good... So we listen to the lyrics... That's why I'm a huge fan of Millencolin !! The sounds is excellent like the lyrics ! Millencolin rules man and you're welcome to the MC community

For a band such Millencolin, both do count.
For a band such Sahara Hotnights, I would say that I listen more to the voice and music first, the lyrics are good but sometime redundent.

Millencolin everything. When I listen to a band of another country I listen to the musics. When is a Brazilian band I listen to the lyrics.

Generally speaking, the sound is the first thing that appears to us. It is the initial factor in determining whether we will enjoy the song or not.
However, there are cases where you will decide to listen to a not-so interesting song (out of sheer boredom or as background noise) and somehow, the lyrics come out and you become intensely fascinated with them (it tooks years for me to appreciate Bad Religion's music).

yeah, when your first language isnt english, the main reason you like a song is the sound, (mostly how it starts) then if you like it, you're gonna search for the lyrics, and you will probably like it even more or even least
sometimes crappy lyrics destroy a good sound song and vice versa
