It is full of mistake but I dont care. So pedro aclaim me, lick my feet cause I did when Chastity couldn't. I was bored but not that much. Wonder why I did the whole..Once you started it is like you can't stop I guess..haha..I am turing crazy or what? I liked the painting part. At my job, we always have this kind of comparaison when it comes the time to explain an artist that we dont accept any kind of stuff here. It is the same with art galleries than music industry.. Well, I'm working tomorrow...blah

It is into the locals that we are going to meet Millencolin, astonishment without stress. In that matter, Julian*, the ultimate band fan, made us revised right before to go and, in case where, did note and put some rescue questions in our hands. Result: a tone of questions that the drummer Fredrik Larzon and guitarist Mathias Färm stuffed themselves with. The worst, it is that they didn’t even look tired.
*Julian: Webmaster of late Boring Planet.
So, your new album will be available from the month of March in France, entitled “Kingwood”. Why did you choose this name?
Mathias: It’s a kind of long story. Nikola bought a Kenwood amp. But in place of, he nicknamed it “Kingwood”. Did you see the cover? He has antlers and he is the King of wood. It has turned to be a sort of words game.
Larzon: There is also this song called “Mooseman’s Jukebox” and in the refrain, the album title comes back once again. Precisely, this song is a sort of hint to all these songs written by these bands who influenced Millencolin. So “Kingwood” would be a forest of musical influences.
It is Nikola whom chose the album title?
Mathias: Yes. It is always hard for us to find together a title. I guess we thought of “Kingwood” for a while, it sounded not that bad. And off you go, we just told ourselves: “Let’s go, we are gonna call it that way”. But, it was Nikola whom definitely found it, he talked about it for 10 years! (laugh)
I’ve read that the album would be less rock n’ roll oriented and faster.
Mathias: Yes, it is a bit of the old Millencolin sound mixed with the new one. But we have written the song without thinking too much about it. It is not as much as rock n’ roll than “Home From Home”<br>Larzon: Onto, there is one or two rock tracks, maybe three. The others are more pop, all is mixed, the old like the new stuff.
It is a way of giving back to your sources?
Larzon: Yes a little. It sounds a bit like before but it is still not an old hat. We never made fast songs like we are doing now. It is….different.
For the three first albums, you called upon a Swedish producer, and after called upon Brett Gurewitz for “Pennybridge” Pioneers” and Lou Giordano for “Home From Home”. So now you are back with a Swedish producer for the new album. Any particular reasons?
Mathias: In fact, no. He is just producing quite a lot of rock n’ roll bands like “The Hellacopters”. He produces quite a lot of Swedish bands and we took him without any particular reason.
Larzon: The only reason that could explain why we chose a Swedish producer, it is that it is easier to communicate, simpler to be understood which kind of sound we want. And so he is living in Sweden, thus, as much for him than for us, it is practical: we go back directly at home after work. All things considered, it is really relaxing and there was a very good ambiance.
About the recording, any crispy details?
Larzon: We just recorded the guitar, then the bass, and then drums and afterwards the vocals… It was like it used to be (laugh). Not a lot of things happened during the recording sessions because we were really focused (NB.: In Russian, we said: Tchaburtabitou) on what we did. And then, we had around two weeks between two festivals to get a rest. Meanwhile, Nikola started to work on his solo album. As a result, we did not have much to do…we hung around…(laugh).
Mathias: We….supervised the mix!
Larzon: Yeah, there we go! (laugh)
Mathias : But there was quite a lot of stress by the end because we were lacking time and there were a tremendous amount of things to finish. Because Nikola recorded the vocals until 2 hours even 4 hours in the morning…Then, from 8 or 10 the next day, we started the mixing.
Larzon: In fact, the most of the time, we hung around at the local pub which was cool (laugh)
What can we expect from the album up to lyrics’ standard?
Mathias: You did not listen to it?
No, they did not send it yet.
Mathias: Up to the lyrics’ standard, I can’t really tell you because it is Nikola whom wrote all. Maybe this time, it is from a different viewpoint. He wrote differently and took new perspectives. It is not only about him, it is not from personal stuff anymore. He wrote about his surrounding and other stuff like that. In his solo album, he had said a lot on his personal thoughts I guess.
So you think justly that he did his solo album just to express it by himself? Like he never could achieve it with the band?
Mathias: Yes. He had tones of melodies in his head but it was too mellow for us. He had to let it out, so he put his own project out. It was surely for him the best thing to do.
Are you willing to do the same thing some day?
Mathias: Maybe some day…..But it surely won’t be the same type of music, not so mellow. Something more punk still. In fact, I love to play with my fellow Millencolin way too much. There is a really good ambiance between us.
Erik was in charge of the whole artwork of “Kingwood”. I find that it resembles quite a lot to the “Home From Home” Cover. Is it again a way to justify that there are similarities up to the sounds’ standard?
Mathias: Oh…(disconcerted). In fact, I do not know….Like I said before, the album sounds like being a mix from the different steps in Millencolin. In fact, I do not know if he thought about this while working on the cover. He just felt he needed to ask himself if it rendered it right or not ….Besides, it does, no?
Yes, absolutely!
Larzon: He also made all the band album covers, the website. He really wants to do it! (laugh) And it is also important for us cause if we write our songs, in that matter, why not so applying the same concept to the whole album.
We happen to find a bird on every covers…What does that means?
Larzon: On our demotape, it was just a bird that Erik drew.
Mathias: We continued to put it and especially on “Home From Home” it is very hard to find. (NB. He shows with his fingers the size of the bird: effectively, it is small).
Larzon: In fact, there is no significance behind this. It is just the bird of Millencolin.
…and it became a little game with the fans.
Larzon: Yes, exactly!
On the next CD, we will happen to find a 80 minutes video but is a following of “Millencolin & the Hi-8 Adventures” planned?
Mathias: Yes, but in a little while…The problem is we have so many videos, so many sources that come from the recording of cds, from touring, from anywhere…It will take time to reunite it all. Maybe in two years…In fact, I can’t tell you exactly when it will come out if not that it will really take time (laugh). But we will have to make it soon if not, we will never see the end.
About the video put on the cd, it is really cool to have included a documentary as long. The bands should have done it earlier, no? It's a way to prevent people from downloading music over the net...
Mathias: It just to make the buy of the cd more interesting. From internet, you can’t have complete object. We try to make the album more interesting, we want people to buy our music because we can survive as a band if there is no person to buy our cds.
